The Knowledge of Breast Feeding In Pregnant Women

Abstract
In order to get a basic data for development of educational program on breast feeding, this study, together with antenatal method of nursing intervention for breast feeding premotion, has been carried out.
From two of General Hospitals, a semi-General Hospital and a special clinic for gynecology located in the city of Taegu, where over 244 pregnant women have been tested by antenatal method, the questionnarie with 55 items has been collected during July 10 August 10, 1996.
The data has been analysed by a statistical analysis program, SPSS.
The results of the study are as follows :
1. Over 90.6% of the whole surveyed pragnant women answered to follow breast feeding afterward, and 86.1% of them also responded at the same time that relevant informations for breast feeding have been obstained before delivery through mainly from megazine(40.1%) and other mass media(16.8%), but only 2.9% from medical specialist.
2. The level of Knowledges related to breast feeding by each item was at an average od 29.3 points among the total 45points od the questionnaire.
3. The level of knowledge by each area in the questionnaire has been revealed to an
average of 0.65 0.13 among 1.00 as a whole. In the category of benefit of baby was 0.80 0.21 as a highest point, but in the area of a squeezing breast milk and its reserve was shown with 0.61 0.23 point, feeding knowledge was 0.58 0.20 and breast care was 0.53 0.22, which were relatively low.
4. The level of knowledge for breast feeding has been surveyed in a different mode by each characteristic such as educational background(P=0.001), type of family(P=0.008), number of children( P=0.000).
